A little while ago one of my lovely facebook followers contacted me after she’d found these amazing queen anne style bedsides at an op-shop, and was wanting them painted. Can I say first up that I was so amazed she’d found a pair and at a good price?? Whenever I see these there is always just one, and most often in terrible condition. These babies were sturdy, and though they had contact in the bottom of each drawer (huh??) they were pretty good all round.

While they look quite good in the photos in reality they were lumpy and bumpy in all the wrong places. And with layers and layers of paint, it took me a couple of weeks (working sporadically) to get the paint off. With two small children (Emma is 4 and Harry is 2) I paint when I can, and sometimes get half an hour to do something before I’m back on Mummy duty again.

So, I used my heat gun to strip all that paint, and once the paint was off I used ASCP in French Linen on the drawers and Dulux Antique White on the frame. I love the contrast… and so calming for the bedroom!

Their lovely owner had purchased a gorgeous new bed and was waiting for it to be delivered, so luckily didn’t mind that they took me a little while to finish. After painting I finished them with Annie Sloan Clear Wax. Oh, and I painted the handles too – I think they make a beautiful statement against the grey…

I get asked a lot about paint stripping – it’s a job I absolutely hate!! I did loads of it for this project for Harry, and this project for Emma, and I am now officially sworn off it for a while. Sometimes I just want to start painting!!! But if I am doing it, because you know, I’m crazy, I will sand it if I can, but with my luck it always seems that I’ve got layers and layers to content with. And then it’s the heat gun. I have used the chemical stuff too, but find it much more fiddly than the gun. And painful if I get some on my hands!!

So what do you think? Do you strip? (paint I mean!!) Love the grey and white? Is Queen Anne your style?

PS – I’ve noticed a bit of a decline in my comments recently and having moved to a new platform I’m wondering what’s happening out there. If you’re there, I’d love to hear from you
