Furniture appliques! Heard of them? Used them? Love them?
We all know I’m partial to a turned leg, a beautiful piece of fretwork or carved details on doors and drawers, but furniture with these gems aren’t always abundant, and when you do find them they generally come with a price tag to match! This is where appliques come in – they’re an affordable way to give your piece some creative details.
At Paisley Vintage we stock Efex Decorative Mouldings, which are latex appliques for furniture. Being made out of latex means that they can be easily manipulated; you can stretch or bend them to fill a space or cut them down to size. I’ve found they are best adhered with Selley’s Kwik Grip, which you can easily pickup at supermarkets and hardware stores.
Using the right glue to adhere them, you can use them on furniture, mirrors, frames; the options are endless!
The dresser above is one of my recent projects; a lovely lingerie chest that I thought could do with a little more detail. The drops used just add another dimension, and are easily painted and waxed using Annie Sloan products.
I’ve also used them on plain terracotta pots, giving them a lovely soft look. These are also part of our Gilding and Applique class, a two hour workshop where you can learn how to use both products and take away two beautiful decorated decor items for your home. If you’d like to book in to a class, check out our workshop schedule here.
As part of my End of Financial Year sale appliques are currently 15% off until Saturday. Get in quick, our offer only applies while stock last and is not available on special orders.
